A posthumous portrait of Captain Hugh Neville Wegg, 'B' Company, 16th (Public Schools) Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, in service dress uniform. Many portraits of service personnel who had died during World War One (1914-1918) were painted posthumously from photographs, and kept as family mementoes.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records Captain Wegg's death on the 25 March 1915, aged 36. His name appears on the Pozieres Memorial in France.
