Indian troops were sent to the strategically vital territory of Aden in order to assist in its defence against the Turks. The Indian soldiers helped make sure communications from Suez to the Indian subcontinent were guaranteed.

From an album compiled by an officer of the Aden Field Force, 1916-1919, relating to the Royal Artillery, Hampshire Regiment, East Surrey Regiment and 33rd Punjabis.
