Military Medal group awarded to Corporal William Harewell, 8th Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own), 1944
Corporal Harewell received the Military Medal for bravery in Normandy on two occasions, on 30 June and 10 July 1944. He acted with coolness and efficiency during enemy shell and mortar attacks, refusing to take cover, dressing the wounds of his comrades and maintaining morale. He was killed in action on 6 August 1944 and was buried at Tilly-sur-Seulles.
Harewell's Military Medal is shown here alongside his 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star 1944-45; Defence Medal 1939-45; and British War Medal 1939-45.
