Instructional chassis for vehicle maintenance training, Auxiliary Territorial Service, 1945
This instructional chassis was used as a training aid for the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during World War Two (1939-1945). Members of the ATS were trained in vehicle maintenance, with sections of the engine being colour coded to show how different parts affect each other.
This chassis was the one on which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was trained on when she was serving in the ATS. She joined just before her eighteenth birthday, when she was still a Princess, and served as a vehicle mechanic and truck driver.
