Boys of the Royal Navy training with 6-inch guns at Shotley Barracks, 1916

Photograph, World War One, Home Front (1914-1918), 1916.

Shotley, better known as HMS 'Ganges', was a naval training establishment near Ipswich. Established in 1905, it trained boys for naval service until it closed in 1976. In 1916 Shotley was bombed by a German zeppelin.
