Soldiers in the back of a truck with Bren gun, 1941

Photograph compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, 1941.

The Fordson WOT2 15-cwt truck bears the rhinoceros insignia of the 1st Armoured Division. In October 1940, 2nd Armoured Division, excepting 22nd Armoured Brigade, was ordered to the Middle East. 22nd Armoured Brigade, of which the Sharpshooters were part, subsequently joined 1st Armoured Division.

In 1939 the British Army had a fully motorised system of troop movement. This enabled relatively fast deployment of forces. In contrast, the German Army that went to war in 1939 was not entirely motorised.

From a photograph album containing 620 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
