Photograph by Major Quaid, 2nd Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers, 1944.

Mules being parachuted in as part of air resupply for British troops in the jungles of Burma. Soldiers from the battalion watch on.On 19 October 1944, 2nd Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers had captured the small down of Pinhe, before A, B and C Companies were sent on to capture Pintha. With the roads unsuitable for heavy traffic, and the railway bridges damaged, resupply and further movement was a major challenge. Mules were a vital tool in moving supplies through the harsh jungle conditions, and the capture of Pintha enabled further air supply.
