Photograph compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North Africa, 1943.

3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) tanks including M4 Shermans and a Crusader tank practising defensive tactics in the desert. The tank crew in the foreground are named as 'Ken Piggott', 'Tommy Thomson', 'Ronnie' (Ronald W Mutton), 'Derek Booker', and 'Chris'.

In early 1943 the Sharpshooters were out of the line re-fitting and training. The unit was re-equipped with six pounder Crusader and Sherman tanks and reinforced after suffering heavy losses in the previous year's battles in North Africa. The regiment was based at Cowley Camp at Mena, near Cairo, where it undertook training until July 1943 prior to Operation HUSKY, the amphibious operation to invade the island of Sicily.

From an album containing 216 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
