Grenade discharger for Short Magazine Lee Enfield rifle, 1916 (c)

The discharger cup attached to a rifle and enabled World War One (1914-1918) soldiers to fire grenades up to a range of 200 yards, much further than a man could throw. As the war developed, rifle grenades were modified to carry smoke, incendiary devices, flares and anti-tank warheads, as well as high explosive.
