Square, hinged case, with two clasps, with chased decoration on one side; inscribed to Sergeant C Goldsmith, 13th (Service) Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own Middlesex Regiment, 'Presented by the Commanding Officer to Sgt Goldsmith. C. of No 9 The Beat Allround Platoon', '13th Btn D.C.O. Middlesex Rgt. 1918.'.
13th (Service) Battalion, The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) was raised in 1914 and was deployed to France in September 1915. It served on the Western Front throughout the rest of World War One (1914-1918), fighting on the Somme, at Ypres and Cambrai. The unit was demobilised in March 1919.
