Band of the second regiment of Life Guards, leaving Windsor, 1830
Oil on canvas by John Frederick Tayler (1802-1889), 1830.
A kettle drummer, flanked by two troopers of the 2nd Life Guards, leads a procession away from Windsor Castle. In the background are trumpeters and a horn player in state dress, which is still worn today.
From 1820, the two regiments of Life Guards and the Royal Horse Guards, comprising the Household Cavalry, took turns to perform guard duties for the King at Windsor and in London. In July each year the three regiments each moved to their next location, passing in turn from Windsor to Regent's Park Barracks and then to Hyde Park Barracks.
