First field dressing, 1914 (c)

Field dressing pack manufactured by the Darton Gibbs Company, Oldbury, 1914 (c).

Drab cotton cover with fastening tapes, containing two dressings, gauze pads sewn to bandages, in waterproof covers, with a safety pin. The cover is printed with the maker's details, opening instructions, contents, and directions for use.

Field dressings were used by medics and all soldiers carried them in their kit. Any man caught without their dressing was charged under military law. This one belonged to Captain C J B Jarrett of 1st Battalion The Royal Munster Fusiliers.
