Coin issued to British prisoners of war at Dülmen camp in Westphalia, 1916 (c)

Prisoners working for their captors were sometimes paid for their work. In First World War (1914-1918) Germany this pay was small and irregular and could only be used in the camp canteen, which was usually very expensive. This money would be mostly used to buy food and cigarettes.
