King George V inspects the grave of a fallen soldier on the Somme during a visit to the Western Front with King Albert of Belgium. The king made several visits to France during the war. On one visit in 1915 he fell off his horse and broke his pelvis. In 1917, sensitive of the Royal Family's German background, George changed their name from the German sounding Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.
