'London Irish Rifles (The Footballers of Loos), We Want Men Urgently', 1915
Printed by W Austin, Elystan Street, Chelsea, 1915.
This leaflet was aimed at potential recruits for the 1/18th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (London Irish Rifles). Mobilised in August 1914 at Duke of York's Headquarters, Chelsea, the London Irish Rifles were sent to France in March 1915 with 2nd (London) Division. The leaflet refers to the Battle of Loos (25 September-14 October 1915) when an officer of the battalion led his men across no-man's-land while kicking a football ahead of them.
