German prisoners at Dorchester Camp, 1917

Lantern slide, World War One, POWs (1914-1918), 1917.

Dorchester camp in Dorset was established in August 1914 when 1,000 prisoners of war (POWs) arrived from France. By the end of the war there were around 4,500 prisoners interned there. Most of the German POWs in this photograph were captured during the Battle of the Somme (1916).
