Shako plate, officer, 77th (East Middlesex) Regiment of Foot, 1869-1878

This badge includes the regimental number within a garter bearing the motto, 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' (Shame on him who thinks evil of it), with laurel wreath surmounted by crown. The badge also includes the regimental numeral below the plumes and motto of the Prince of Wales, granted to the unit in 1810 to commemoration 20 years of service in India.

In 1881 the 77th became the 2nd Battalion Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment).
