Storming of Afridi sangars, Bazar Valley

Hand coloured lantern slide.

The Bazar Valley was inhabited by the Zakka Khel clan of the Afridi tribe. During the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880) they regularly attacked small convoys and cut communication lines along the Khyber route. Eventually the British launched two major punitive expeditions into their valley in December 1878 and January 1879.

One of 37 hand coloured lantern slides.
