Interior of fort at Dakka, 1878 (c)

Hand coloured lantern slide.

Dakka Fort was situated on the Afghan side of the Khyber Pass. This slide shows the interior of the fort, with the Hindu Kush mountains beyond and soldiers and a camel caravan, a regular site in the Khyber, in the foreground. The Peshawar Valley Field Force rested here for three weeks after travelling through the pass in November 1878.

One of 37 hand coloured lantern slides.
