General de Gaulle lands in France, 14 June 1944

Photograph, World War Two, North West Europe, 1944.

Charles de Gaulle landed at Courseulles in the Juno Beach sector. The previous April he had been given command of all Free French forces. On 25 August 1944 he led his forces down the Champs-Élysées as the Allies liberated Paris.

From a collection of 33 British official photographs, D-Day and Operation OVERLORD.
