Officer's full dress tunic, Major Archibald Spencer Drummond, Scots Guards, 1898 (c)

This pattern tunic was introduced in 1856 and is almost identical to the tunics worn in full dress today. The officers in guards regiments have special pattern embroidery around the collars, cuffs and skirts of their tunics. In addition the groupings of the buttons identify the regiment. In this case the buttons are grouped in threes, which denote the Scots Guards. The black arm band on this tunic show that is was worn by an officer in mourning.
