Tunic, service dress, lieutenant, Militia Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers, 1902-1908
Khaki serge service dress was introduced for the whole of the Army in 1902. Service dress also came with bronzed buttons and badges for officers to enable them to be less conspicuous. This officers tunic bears insignia on the lower sleeve denoting the rank of Lieutenant. The stand collar and twisted cord shoulder straps, were changed in 1908 for a turned down collar which would be worn with a shirt and tie.
In addition to two regular battalions, the Royal Munster Fusiliers had two Militia battalions, part time soldiers who could be mobilised in the event of war. The regiment was disbanded in 1922 on the creation of the Irish Free State.
