Letter from Ensign John Impett to his mother, 24 April 1815
Sent from Edinburgh, the letter contains much personal and family information but also says he is about to depart for the continent, via Gravesend, to join the 1st Battalion at Ostend. He also hopes to return a captain after the forthcoming campaign. Impett was one of the youngest officers to fight at Waterloo (1815), serving with the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry).
