'Private of the WAAC, 1917'

Watercolour over pencil, artist unknown, 1917.

This watercolour is a clear representation of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps uniform known as the 'dirty smock'. This was a work coat to be worn over the uniform when undertaking roles or tasks that could damage the uniform underneath or make it dirty. They were preferable to aprons as they cover the whole uniform.
