York Light Infantry Volunteers, 1812

The York Light Infantry Volunteers was raised in 1804 from English and German volunteers in the West Indies. The latter were joined by members of the Dutch garrisons captured by the British following their seizure of the Dutch Caribbean colonies of Berbice, Demerara and Essequibo in 1803. Commanded by Major-General Sir Charles Green, the York Light Infantry Volunteers was disbanded at Harwich in March 1817.
