The attack on Cheux was part of 'Operation EPSOM' which was designed to outflank and seize the German-occupied city of Caen during the Battle of Normandy. Johnnie Davies of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) is standing to the bottom right of the photograph.
