John Profumo talks with Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC) catering staff. This photograph was probably taken on an official visit to the WRAC Training Centre at Lingfield in Surrey in April 1962.
John Profumo (1915-2006) became Secretary of State for War in July 1960. The following year he became embroiled in the affair that ended his political career in 1963. Profumo was a veteran of World War Two (1939-1945), commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps in 1939, he served in North Africa and Normandy.
