The British Army of the Rhine was established in March 1919 as part of the Allied occupation force that entered the Rhineland after the November 1918 Armistice. Until 1922 it consisted of five corps, composed of two divisions each, and a cavalry division. In 1922 this was reduced to two brigades. British troops remained in Germany until 1929.
