The war diary of the Sharpshooters records heavy fighting around the Primosole Bridge over the Simeto RIver in July 1943. During Operation FUSTIAN Allied airborne troops attempted to capture the bridge and 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) was involved in the supporting ground attack. Here the unit forms a 'leaguer', taking up a defensive formation for the night in the face of potential German counterattacks.
