The first casualty, Italy, September 1943

This knocked-out Sherman tank of 3rd County of London Yeomanry, commanded by Norman Seddon, was hit by a 75 mm anti-tank gun at Coursa near Manfredonia on the road to Bari, killing one of the crewmen. The wooden grave marker visible to the right of the photograph is inscribed, 'RIP Tpr G. Sinclair 7966645 3CLY Killed in Action 25.9.43'
