Lieutenant Kenneth Colville Kiddle, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), aged 23, was killed leading a reconnaissance patrol on the outskirts of San Severo on 27 September 1943. Kiddle's scout car was blown up by a German 88 mm gun. The bodies of Kiddle and two other soldiers killed in the action were disinterred by local clergy and lay in state in the Cathedral at San Severo.
