Lieutenant Geoffrey William Hird, aged 21, was killed when his scout car hit a mine during a reconnaissance patrol near Asch (As) in Belgium on 20 September 1944. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records his burial at Leopoldsburg War Cemetery in Belgium.
