In September 1943 Penrose was commanding 3 Troop 'B' Squadron, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters). He went on to fight in North West Europe. The war diary of the Sharpshooters records a Lieutenant B Penrose wounded in action in Normandy on 10 July 1944.
