This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944. Brian H Penrose, nicknamed 'The Goon', was a veteran of the Italian campaign. The war diary of the Sharpshooters records a Lieutenant B Penrose wounded in action in Normandy on 10 July 1944.
