'The chateau at Mouen', June 1944

The Sharpshooter's war diary entry for for 28 June 1944 records that it fought with German armour south east of the town of Cheux. A number of white grave markers can be seen in the foreground to the left.

The unit was tasked to support the 10th Battalion Highland Light Infantry to take the village of Mouen, as part of the operations to outflank and seize the German occupied city of Caen. On the 28th June British forces lost a number of tanks and men but the village was subsequently taken.
