The attack on Cheux was part of 'Operation EPSOM' which was designed to outflank and seize the German-occupied city of Caen during the Battle of Normandy. 'B' Squadron 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) held the ridge enabling them to overlook the nearby village of Mouen.
