Botersen aerodrome, Germany, 1945
Photograph compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North West Europe, 1945.
Botersen aerodrome, Lower Saxony, April 1945, showing bomb damage;. The rather odd upright wooden and wire obstacles were possibly set up to disrupt Allied glider landings.
In the last weeks of World War Two (1939-1945) 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) were in action in Lower Saxony. The Sharpshooters war diary entry for 26 April 1945 records that the aerodrome at Botersen was captured by 'C' Squadron and infantry from the 4th Battalion, Welch Regiment, with no opposition. Ten German Air Force personnel were captured.
