In the last weeks of World War Two (1939-1945) 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) were in action in Lower Saxony. The Sharpshooters war diary for April has elements of the regiment operating in and around Gyhum on 25 April 1945, leaguering in the area overnight. It mentions that the 'the autobahn Southeast of it was crossed unopposed'.
