An abandoned German 105 mm gun in countryside near Unterstedt, Lower Saxony.

In the last weeks of the World War Two (1939-1945) 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) were in action in Lower Saxony. The Sharpshooters war diary entry for 22 April 1945 describes how tanks of 'C' Squadron and infantry from 1/5th Battalion, Welch Regiment took the village of Unterstedt against 'token opposition'. 40 prisoners of war were taken with no casualties. In the nearby hamlet of Eversen several more prisoners were taken and the diary records the capture of abandoned 75 mm, 88 mm and 125 mm guns.
