On 21 July 1945, 10,000 soldiers of 7th Armoured Division held a parade through the British sector of Berlin to celebrate their victory in the Second World War.

Clement Atlee, the Labour Party Leader and MP who had defeated Churchill in the 1945 General Election, attended. He succeeded Churchill as Prime Minister on 26 July 1945.
