'Under great difficulties our troops carry supplies over destroyed bridges on the Yser Canal', 1917 (c)
Stereographic photograph, World War One (1914-1918), Western Front, 1917 (c).
Moving supplies up to the front line trenches on the Western Front was a dangerous business and men carrying rations and ammunition were often targeted by enemy snipers and artillery. In some sections of the line, supply convoys would vary the times and routes of their journeys in order to maximise their chances of getting through unscathed.
One of 100 stereoscopic photographs associated with World War One.
