The Taj Mahal is the white marble mausoleum commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is situated on the bank of the Yamuna River at Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It was completed in the 1640s and houses the tombs of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan himself. The complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and attracts millions of visitors every year.

From an album of 116 photographs compiled by Lieutenant Hugh Stephenson Turnbull, 57th Wilde's Rifles (Frontier Force) in India and Egypt, 1903-1906.
