The Queen's Royal Hussars Battle Group, Maysan Province, Iraq, 2006
Photograph by Corporal Anthony Boocock Royal Logistic Corps, 20th Armoured Brigade Media Ops, September 2006.
The Queen's Royal Hussars Battle Group operating in north-eastern Maysan Province, conducted patrols in an attempt to reduce the movement of insurgents, arms and ammunition across the porous Iran-Iraq border. Conducting counter-smuggling operations in desert and marsh areas, the battle group remained highly manoeuvrable, pitching a temporary camp every three or four days. Their camp consisted of a laager, vehicles arranged in a defensive position, disguised by sand-coloured camouflage nets, a kilometre from the nearest road.
