'Are you a Skilled Artisan Desiring Promotion to the Rank of Acting Armament Staff Serjeant?', 1942

Coloured lithograph poster, after Abram Games (1914-1996), printed by George Gibbons Limited, 1942.

Games designed many British wartime propaganda and information posters over the course of his military service with the Royal Engineers. In 1942 he was appointed Official War Poster Artist.

In 1942 the Army improved its selection process. All recruits spent six weeks at a Primary Training Centre before being posted to a specific regiment or corps. In the same year, Games designed these posters to encourage soldiers to apply for transfer to roles that took advantage of their peacetime skills.

This poster is aimed at skilled artisans who were required urgently for training as Armament Artificers in the following positions: armoured fighting vehicle, anti-aircraft, motor vehicle, electrical, wireless and radio. The successful candidates are promised promotion to the rank of staff serjeant.

From a collection of 45 posters from World War Two (1939-1945).
