The nuns of the convent who now tend the graves of Geoffrey, John and Trotter', Asch, 1944

Major John Lampert Aitken MC, aged 30, Lieutenant Geoffrey William Hird, aged 21, and Trooper Thomas Trotter, aged 27, were killed when their scout car hit a mine during a reconnaissance patrol near Asch (As) in Belgium on 20 September 1944. They were buried in the grounds of a convent at Asch.
