Graves of airmen near Hesdin, 14 July 1918

Photograph, World War One, Air Operations (1914-1918), 1918.

Several of the graves have been marked with propellers as temporary headstones. After the war such markers would be replaced by standard Imperial War Graves Commission headstones. During the war, the Royal Flying Corps, the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Air Force lost 9,378 men.
