Christmas Day celebrations, 1951
Photograph, Singapore, 1951.
For British troops on active service, spending Christmas on a military base, sometimes thousands of miles away from home, could be tough. Many did not even have time to celebrate the special day itself. Despite these difficult circumstances, soldiers have always often found unique ways of getting into the festive spirit.
From an album of 146 images, presented to Dame Frances Coulshed, Director of the Women's Royal Army Corps from 1951-1954, by the Officer Commanding and All Ranks, 4 Independent Coy, Women's Royal Army Corps, Singapore.
