Members of the Women's Auxiliary Corps (India) in service dress, 1942
Photograph, India, 1942.
The main spheres of female involvement in the Far East campaign were in non-combatant roles in the auxiliary services and the nursing services. The former performed a variety of duties from clerical work to transport of supplies, and in this latter capacity they at times worked close to the front line ensuring supplies reached the troops.
One of five photographs collected by Mrs Winifred Louise Norrish associated with The Quetta Platoon, Women's Auxiliary Corps (India), 1942.
