Silver, impressed on underside of cup 'O M BHUJ' for Oomersi Mawji (1832-1911) of Bhuj, India, 1900 (c).The Erinpura (or Erinpoorah) Irregular Force was raised in 1860 in Erinpura, Rajasthan, for local deployment. It consisted of cavalry as well as infantry, but in 1903 it lost the mounted branch and became the 43rd Erinpura Regiment. In a further reorganization of the Indian Army in 1921 the unit was disbanded.
This fine example of the Indian silversmith Oomersi Mawji's craft is embossed with detailed figures of animals as well ornate foliage.
