'The Grand Circle on the bar', 1886

An Indian soldier performs a gymnastic display as a British Army Gymnastic Staff instructor and a crowd of British and Indian soldiers look on. The display took place during the Delhi Camp of Exercise in 1886, the biggest peacetime gathering of troop in India to date.

From an album of 67 photographs taken by Raja (Lala) Deen Dayal, entitled, 'Delhi Camp of Exercise 1886', 'Photographed by Lala Deen Diyal Indore C.I.'; formerly the property of Lieutenant Colonel Frederic Standish Hore (1836-1895), 39th Foot.
